IOWA CITY — An $11,313 endowment at Iowa City’s Roosevelt Elementary School, which is closing in June, will move to the new Norman Borlaug Elementary School.
The Jerry Hoffey/Roosevelt Memorial Endowment was created in 1992 by former Roosevelt teacher Janet Hoffey in honor of her husband, who was a professor in the University of Iowa’s biochemistry department.
Interest on the endowment is used for literacy projects, particularly focusing on at-risk students.
Borlaug Elementary, opens at the start of the 2012-13 school year and will replace Roosevelt.
